GDS Storefront Estimating

Instructions for fixing the Shopdrawing Tool in Windows Vista.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
64-bit Vista Tip!
If you have the 64-bit version of Windows Vista, you will have to make sure the drdwg.ocx file is in the Windows\System32 folder. The install software for GDS might install this file into the Windows\Syswow folder, which contains 64-bit drivers. Once you copy this file to the System32 folder, you can follow the directions below to register the file.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you receive a "Run Time Error 339" message when you click the Yellow Ruler tool to open the shopdrawing window in v14.1, follow these steps to correct the problem.

  1. Click on the Start Button (Vista icon) in the bottom left corner of your desktop. Type the word Command in the search line. Right click on the Command Prompt link that was found, and click on "Run as Administrator." This will open a black window with a command prompt.
  2. At the command prompt type the following command as you can see in the window below:   regsvr32 \windows\system32\drdwg.ocx
  3. When you hit Enter after typing this command, you will see the "succeeded" message appear. Click OK on this message, then type Exit at the command prompt and hit Enter to close the command prompt window.

This is it. The shopdrawing tool will now work in the GDS v14 program. If you are bugged by the endless prompts that Windows Vista presents you with every time you do something, you can leave the User Account Control setting off. However, if you prefer the added security against user related accidents in Windows, you can go back to the User Settings window and turn the UAC setting back on. Remember that you will need to reboot your computer again if you decide to do this.
